Visa Requirements for Foreigners in Albania
Have you got a question?
Albania has recently seen an upsurge in the number of foreign visitors, prompting a review of legislation and alignment with European Union standards. The entry of foreign nationals into the Republic of Albania is subject to obtaining residence permits or visas, depending on the country of origin. This article provides an overview of Albania’s visa requirements for foreign nationals, including the types of visas available, eligibility criteria, and application procedures.
Visa regulations are governed by Law No. 79/2021, “On Foreigners,” and Council of Ministers Decision No. 858, dated December 29, 2021, which sets out the criteria, procedures, and documentation required for entry, stay, and treatment of foreigners.
There are three main types of visas:
- Type A Visa: This is a transit visa issued for passengers transiting through Albanian airports. It allows holders to stay in the international transit zone of the airport until their connecting flight departs for their final destination.
- Type C Visa: This visa allows holders to enter and stay in Albania for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. It can be issued for single, double, or multiple entries, and its validity cannot exceed five years.
- Type D Visa: This visa is intended for foreign nationals planning to stay in Albania for more than 90 days within a 180-day period. Holders of this visa are eligible to apply for a residence permit upon entry into Albania. The visa can be issued for one year, allowing a maximum stay of 90 days within a 180-day period, with single, double, or multiple entries.
The visa application process begins online, where applicants register and upload the required documents. After submitting the online application and upon acceptance, applicants must deposit their documents at the Consular Offices of the Republic of Albania or Honorary Consulates abroad. The required documentation generally include:
- Completed visa application form
- Recent passport-sized photo
- Copy of a valid travel document (passport)
- Proof of health insurance
- Declaration of consent for minors traveling without a parent or legal guardian
- Invitation letter from a host in Albania, if applicable
Additional documentation may be required based on the type of visa and the purpose of the visit. Our team help to ensure clients provide all the required evidence with the appropriate representations for their visa application.
